Slideshow: Tips On Staying Cool and Keeping Your Pets Cool Barton said many times she hears of owners leaving their pets outside to play in the heat without proper water or shade."You shouldn't leave your animal outside unsupervised for more than half an hour," Barton said.Even when taking an animal for a walk in the heat, Barton said owners should remember the sidewalk can be very dangerous, burning the animal's pads.
