The Democrats are hoping to generate enough demagoguery to obscure their awful
economic record and fend off defeat in next year's elections, but so far there
is little indication that their strategy is succeeding. Scott Rasmussen
continues to find that Republicans lead Democrats in the generic Congressional
ballot, currently by six points among likely voters:
This is consistent with other findings: on fiscal issues (taxes, government
spending and regulation), 44% of likely voters say they are conservative,
while 39% are moderates and only 14% are liberals. And other pollsters find
that Americans are more pessimistic about the economy than at any time during
the Obama administration.
The way things are going, the Democrats may welcome Weinergate as a
distraction.
