Hart's rate way up-Rodeo-GoTeamsGo Sports Fan Forum

It's a wonder J.W. Hart has any time these days.

Since retiring from bull riding, the original Iron Man has been working in the Versus broadcast booth, co-hosting "PBR Now" on RFD-TV, managing his Oklahoma ranch and raising bucking bulls. He and his wife LeAnn have adopted two children - Wacey and Makayla - and also took in two foster children for the summer.

"And they're all under 2-and-a-half," he said.

The Department of Human Services contacted the Harts to see if they could help care for the two little girls through the month of July. The two became certified for foster care when they adopted Makayla last year through DHS. Hart joked that they knew his wife "can't turn a kid down," so when the foster home in Marietta, Okla., was nearing capacity, the Harts said, "Come on."

This weekend, he's hosting his annual Touring Pro event in Decatur, Texas - the J.W. Hart PBR Challenge. The charity event is Saturday night at the Wise County Sheriff's Posse Arena - a three-time PBR Venue of the Year for lower-lever events - beginning at 8 p.m.

Each year Hart donates the proceeds to the United Way of Decatur and other areas outside of Dallas and Fort Worth, along with $5,000 to the Rider Relief Fund. He also makes donations to the schools, police station and the sheriff's station in Wise County.

Hart said this year they're expected to surpass $400,000 raised since he first held the event in nearby Gainesville before relocating it to Decatur.

"All I do is hire my friends to come put it on," said Hart, who credits the local event committee with taking care of all the details.

This year's event will feature 2009 World Champion Kody Lostroh along with current Top 10 riders J.B. Mauney and Ryan McConnel .

It's also the first ABBI "maturity" event.

That part of the competition works just like a Classic event, only it's for bulls 4 years old and up who are registered with the ABBI. The only other stipulations are that they cannot be among the Top 30 bulls in the PBR or have won money as a Classic bull in 2011.

Which means that even though Bushwacker and I'm a Gangster will be there, they won't be eligible for the "maturity."

"I think this is the first Touring Pro and probably the only one that both Bushwacker and I'm a Gangster will be at, at the same time," Hart said.

The championship round will also feature Perfect Poison, Bad Blake, Shepherd Hills Trapper, Stubby and more.
