. locations throughout California, those layoffs did not take place, a Hostess Brands spokesman has confirmed.The maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, among many other brands, is working through its second bankruptcy reorganization in two years. More than 1,700 layoffs were possible statewide, including close to 300 in the Sacramento region, effective July 3.
In May, Hostess Brands filed documents with the state Employment Development Department?
warning of the possible July 3 layoffs in case the company had to close and liquidate the business by then.?Negotiations with our unions are ongoing and our goal is still to emerge from bankruptcy as a growing company,? Erik Halvorson, a spokesman for Hostess Brands, said in an email. He confirmed that no employees were laid off.
About 80 percent of Hostess Brands employees are union members.
The filing of possible layoffs included six locations in Sacramento, the largest of which has 226 employees on Arden Way. Another 79 employees, working in Rancho Cordova, Auburn, Woodland and three other Sacramento locations, also received the warning notices.
Hostess Brands filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the Southern District of New York.
