Dust off those steel-toed snow boots.

British Columbia, Canada, is looking for a hearty crew of construction workers. And it?s going to take more than a few dog sleds to get them there.

Tom Freeman, commissioner with the Riverside County Economic Development Agency?s office of foreign trade, just sent over a Job Fair flyer that says 40,000 construction workers are being recruited for jobs in our sister country to the north. Canada is having an unprecedented economic boom and is experiencing shortages of skilled construction workers in all of its provinces, Freeman said.

With thousands of construction workers in California still unemployed or underemployed, and taking their lumps from the fallout of the Great Recession, the Job Fair may offer a pipeline to snag sustained work ? if mobility is an option.

Recruitment will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Workforce Development Center, 44-199 Monroe St., Suite B, Indio.

What to bring? A resume and certified training records: Industrial insulator, HVAC, refrigeration technician, heavy duty mechanic, ironworker, heavy steel plate fabricator, crane operator, gas fitters, rebar workers, heavy equipment operators, millwrights, commercial/industrial plumbers, pipefitters, steamfitters, estimators and engineers of all types.
