Japanese losing interest in next-generation games machines

goo Research recently took their third regular look at games machines, and according to the report on japan.internet.com, interest in the newest devices is waning.

Demographics

Between the 23rd and 26th of April 2012 1,083 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 52.8% of the sample were male, 16.3% in their teens, 18.2% in their twenties, 21.2% in their thirties, 16.3% in their forties, and 28.0% aged fifty or older.

The article doesn?t report the question I would like to hear answered, why people are not interested in the new devices. For the PS Vita and Xperia PLAY, is it that normal smartphones do the job well enough, and with various surveys pointing to the majority of those in their twenties now carrying smartphones, a prime target for Sony already derives enough fun from their iPhone, Galaxy or other big-seller?

Research results

First of all, people were asked what games machines they owned. 64.7% of the sample, or 701 people, had at least one, and from that group 61.6% had a Nintendo DS of one form or other (bog standard, lite, i, LL, 3DS, etc), 50.5% had a PlayStation 2, 50.1% a Wii, 32.4% a PlayStation Portable, 28.1% a PS3, and so on down the ranks. However, for the PlayStation Vita, released in December last year and having sold 1.2 million units worldwide, just 2.6% of these 701, or 18 people, 1.7% of the original sample owned one, up just 0.2 percentage points since the previous survey three months ago. Even worse, for the Xperia PLAY SO-01D from NTT docomo, not one single person surveyed owned one!

Next, excluding the 18 PS Vita owners from the first question, the following were asked.

Q1: Do you think you would want to buy a PS Vita? (Sample size=1,065)

Want to buy	7.8%
Don?t want to buy, but interested in it	31.7%
Don?t want to buy at all	60.5%

The not interested group has increased 5.2 percentage points since the previous survey. The report noted that a new colour and a Hatsune Miku collaboration is due out in August, which perhaps accounted for some of the interest in the product.

Q2: Do you think you would want to buy an Xperia PLAY SO-01D? (Sample size=1,083)

Want to buy	2.8%
Don?t want to buy, but interested in it	17.5%
Don?t want to buy at all	79.8%

The not interested group has increased 5.0 percentage points since the previous survey.

Q3: Do you think you would want to buy a Wii U, due out some time this year? (Sample size=1,083)

Want to buy	7.1%
Don?t want to buy, but interested in it	33.5%
Don?t want to buy at all	59.4%

The not interested group has increased 6.9 percentage points since the previous survey.

Home Maintenance 101: Exterior House Painting Tips

As a homeowner, you only want what's best for your humble abode. Keeping everything in working order and good condition should be your top priority. However, due to the harsh weather and other natural and manmade factors, you may find that your home is showing signs of deterioration.

The exterior is one of the most important parts of a home because it is the most noticeable. Some people would examine the value of a house just by looking at its outer surface. You can tell if a certain home is well-maintained because the outside walls are free from molds and stains; the windows look spick and span; and the doors open and close without difficulty.

If your home's exterior suffers from chipping paint, crumbling walls and has an overall worn look, then it might be time for you to consider a major repaint project. If you're thinking that you don't have the money for it, then think again. There is a wide selection of paints and brushes in the market today and most of them are quite reasonably priced. You can even hire a professional painter to aid you in the process. You will find in this article some helpful tips when painting your home's exterior.

Before everything else, make sure that the materials (paint, primer, brush, sprayer, aluminum wedges, etc.) are available and ready so that you will have a continuous painting process. According to an Atlanta painting specialist, it's also best to clean the surface of every exterior before application to avoid rough and uneven areas when the paint is applied. Cover the glass windows, doors (if necessary) and other valuables with plastic sheeting to avoid paint staining.

As advised by Atlanta roofing contractors and other home experts, it's best to start painting from top to bottom to prevent streaks from appearing. In this case, you should start with the roof, next move on to the siding, then the gutters and so on until you've reached the ground. Before painting, make sure to add grit or sand to the surface floor. Doing so will prevent slipping accidents from happening.

A painting and roofing Atlanta specialist recommends that you seal off all excess paint materials after use as you can still use them in your future repainting projects. You can visit homedit.com/tips-for-painting-the-exterior-of-your-house/ for more home exterior painting tips or you can schedule a consultation with recommended contractors in your area.

Jennifer Hudson, Sister Send Prayers to Family of William Balfour

Not long after William Balfour was found guilty of murdering her mother, brother and nephew, Jennifer Hudson released an email statement regarding the tragedy as a whole.

“We have felt the love and support from people all over the world, and we’re very grateful,” Hudson and sister Julia said, extending a prayer “from the Hudson family to the Balfour family" because "we have all suffered a terrible loss in this tragedy."

Quoting Scripture, the Hudson sisters concluded:

"And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn upon them (2 Corinthians 4:3-4). It is our prayer that the Lord will forgive Mr. Balfour of these heinous acts and bring his heart into repentance someday."

Balfour faces life in prison, and his attorney plans to appeal her client's multiple convictions next month.
