Show cause notice for Abdul Razzaq ? Cricket News Update
The Pakistan Cricket Board has reportedly issued a show cause notice to all-rounder Abdul Razzaq for his media outburst after returning home from Sri Lanka, following a semi-final exit in the latest edition of the ICC World T20 championship.
Razzaq, the 32-year-old pace bowling all-rounder, was rested for Thursday?s World T20 semi-final against Sri Lanka, in favour of left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir. After restricting the hosts to 139 for 4, the Pakistan cricket team fell short by 16 runs in the end.
Former cricketers and the Pakistan media criticised skipper Hafeez for not playing match-winning all-rounder Abdul Razzaq in the crunch game. Hafeez told the media reporters on his return home that the decision to drop Razzaq was taken by the team management.
But the all-rounder blamed his skipper only for his exclusion from the playing XI for Sri Lanka semi-final. Taking a jab on Hafeez, Razzaq urged him to own up to his decision and tell the Pakistan fans the truth, signalling signs of discontent in the dressing room.
Sources close to Razzaq have claimed that the all-rounder received a show cause notice from the PCB on Sunday, seeking an explanation over his contentious remarks to the media. In the notice, the right-arm medium pacer has also been reminded that being a centrally contracted player, he was bound to follow PCB?s code of conduct.
The sources have also claimed that the PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf, taking the notice of the incident, has asked both Razzaq and Hafeez to see him in his office on Monday.
"The comments made by Razzaq and Hafeez have ignited another controversy in Pakistan cricket and clearly the board chairman wants to snuff this out before it gets worse," the source said.
"The board chairman is also expected to meet with the coach and manager," added the source.
Meanwhile, Hafeez has said that the truth about the selection issues would come out soon. Hafeez also denied to blame anyone for Pakistan?s defeat to Sri Lanka in the semi-final but himself.
The 31-year-old right-handed opener also took a jab at media for passing on unfair judgements on his batting and captaincy.
