How to Start an Internet Business ? The Essentials of Forum Marketing

Chances are if you are looking into how to start an Internet Business, you have visited a forum or two. While there you were exposed to one of the best ways to attract visitors to your site. It is also one of the areas where many marketers fail to take advantage of a great opportunity.

I?m talking about of course Forum Marketing. The means by which you market yourself and your website to thousands of forum visitors every day. Free traffic is available 24 hours per day and all you have to do is follow some simple guidelines to give yourself the best chances of success.

Here are some simple guidelines to follow for marketing on forums.

1. Read the forum rules first. This is the absolutely first thing you should do prior to setting up your account. Find out what are the ?Do?s & Don?ts? and follow them.
2. Fill out your profile completely. This is where you will be creating your ?advertisement? When completing your profile do the following;
   • Use your real name as your User Name. This will contribute to your credibility.
   • For an Avatar, use a nice photo of yourself. A smile goes a long way.
   • Take advantage of every entry available. If there are places for you to enter your bio, do so. Do not pass up an opportunity to say something that others may read.
   • - Enter your Social Media accounts. You will gain many connections by having these linked to your forum posts.
   • Pay attention to your Signature. Many forums will have particular rules here, so once again read the rules. It is not uncommon for you to be able to enter one or two direct links to your websites. Also you will want to write your signature as you would a short but effective advertisement. Create a ?call to action?.
3. Make posts on a regular basis. Provide help and ask questions on a 3 to 1 ratio if possible. Only provide answers to questions that you know the answer to and ask questions to gain knowledge or insight from others.
4. Devote 15 to 30 minutes per day to your forum marketing efforts. Do not spend hours on the forums, you will be taking valuable time away from other activities that are essential to building your online business.

You can apply these techniques to just about every forum online with a few exceptions. You will gain the most visitors by participating in forums that are related to your niche but by all means utilize them elsewhere as well, you never know who is going to be stopping by to read your post.
