PHOTO: Meet Ryan Phillippe & Alexis Knapp's Baby Girl

Ryan Phillippe became a father again on July 1 when his ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp gave birth to their baby girl, Kailani Merizalde Phillippe Knapp.

Knapp, an aspiring 22-year-old actress, shared a picture of her three-month-old chubby-cheeked bundle of joy on Twitter, gushing about her daughter's cuteness.

"I do declare you to be the prettiiiest lil girl in the whole wide world," the proud young mama twittered with a link to the photo.

Knapp's pregnancy was announced in March, but it was not confirmed whether Phillippe, 37, was the baby's father. The Lincoln Lawyer actor erased much doubt about his paternity, however, when sources reported he was taking responsibility by attending doctor's appointments and being present at the baby's birth. And despite no comment from his reps, clearly little Kailani has Phillippe in her name.

Phillippe has two older children: Ava, 11, and Deacon, 7, with first wife Reese Witherspoon.

"Reese feels bad Ryan has to deal with this," a source told Us in July. "They're bonding over it because it obviously affects their kids."

Jailed China Nobel winner's wife still silenced (AP)

BEIJING ? In a quiet, leafy neighborhood of Beijing, a woman has been living in enforced isolation in her book-lined, fifth-floor apartment. Her apparent misdeed: being married to a Nobel Peace Prize winner the Chinese government calls a criminal.

In the year since jailed democracy campaigner Liu Xiaobo was awarded the prize, his wife Liu Xia has also become a prisoner. She has largely been held incommunicado, effectively under house arrest, watched by police, without phone or Internet access and prohibited from seeing all but a few family members.

"Liu Xia has been completely cut off from communication with the outside world, and leads a lonely and oppressed life," said Beijing activist Zeng Jinyan, the wife of another well-known dissident who has endured bouts of surveillance and harassment. "It has already been a year, I dare not imagine how much longer she must bear this pain."

The Nobel prize announced last Oct. 8 cheered China's fractured, persecuted dissident community and brought calls from the U.S., Germany and others for Liu's release, but also infuriated Beijing, and authorities harassed and detained dozens of his supporters in the weeks that followed.

China has a long history of punishing family members of government critics. But the Liu case is different because he's the first to win the Peace Prize and by isolating Liu Xia the government seems intent on preventing the frail-looking 51-year-old poet with close-cropped hair and wire-rimmed glasses from becoming a rallying point for political activists.

"The Chinese government simply just do not want people to be reminded of the emotional, the human aspect of Liu Xiaobo in jail, and to do that they also want to erase Liu Xia from people's memory," said Wang Songlian, a researcher with China Human Rights Defenders in Hong Kong.

The harsh treatment of Liu Xia seemingly runs afoul of China's laws and might be the most severe retaliation ever suffered by the family of a Peace Prize laureate.

"As far as I know, the way she is treated is unprecedented in the history of the Nobel Peace Prize," said Geir Lundestad, secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. "Her situation is extremely regrettable."

Lundestad said the committee is also worried about Liu Xiaobo because it has not received any new information about his situation since late last year.

The government did not comment.

A literary critic and dogged campaigner for peaceful political change, Liu Xiaobo tried to negotiate the retreat of pro-democracy student demonstrators from Tiananmen Square in 1989. He co-authored a manifesto in 2008 calling for an end to single-party rule. Both acts earned him jail terms, the latter an 11-year sentence he is now serving.

Liu Xiaobo and Liu Xia's friendship began in the early 1980s over a shared love of literature and poetry. Her father, a senior finance official, had set up a cushy job at the national tax bureau for her, but she quit because she wanted more freedom, according to an essay about the couple by dissident writer and friend, Yu Jie.

They wedded in 1996 while he was in a labor re-education camp in order for Liu Xia to be granted permission to visit him. Yu's essay says she told police: "I just want to marry that 'enemy of the state'!"

In a tribute to Liu Xia, Liu Xiaobo wrote: "I am serving my sentence in a tangible prison, while you wait in the intangible prison of the heart," as part of a statement he had prepared for his trial in 2009.

Two days after the Nobel announcement, which brought furious condemnation from Beijing, Liu Xia was allowed to visit him in prison. She carried out a message from him that he dedicated the award to those who died in the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown. Rights groups say she hasn't been allowed to see him since.

During a rare phone interview with the AP a few days after the award was announced, Liu Xia sounded hopeful her confinement would be brief: "I'm sure that for a moment the pressure will be greater, I will have even less freedom, even more inconvenience, but I believe they won't go on like this forever and that there will be positive change in the future."

On a recent day, there were no signs of movement in her apartment that could be seen from the ground floor, although a window was open and a light in a small room was switched on at night. Downstairs, residents walked their dogs near a river where Chinese men were swimming and fishing.

Liu Xiaobo was not allowed to attend the funeral of his father last month and it's not clear that he or Liu Xia know that he died Sept. 12, because his brother could not reach him, said Liu Xiaobo's close friend, Wu Wei. Wu said he was informed by Liu Xiaoxuan, Liu Xiaobo's younger brother, who told the AP he was not allowed to accept foreign media interviews.

"He said there was no channel, no way to inform Xiaobo and Liu Xia, so that means that they do not necessarily know the news," Wu said in a phone interview.

Despite being more beleaguered since the Nobel prize, many of China's dissidents say they cherish the recognition.

"Awarding Liu Xiaobo the prize had the overall effect of helping to energize China's civil opposition and rights defense movement," said Wu, the writer. "Just like South Africa had their Mandela and Myanmar had their Aung San Suu Kyi, we now have Liu Xiaobo."

For those in Abusive ... - Relationships and Communication

sixela0777 :

You will probably ignore this, but I just want to point out that you never talk about your father. I?ve never really seen you post anything like ?Happy B-day Dad? or ?I love you Dad?. If it?s too sensitive for you, then I?m sorry if I ever point it out. The reason I notice is because you said that you?ve been in an abusive relationship since you were 5. Then, it occurred to me, she never talks about her dad.
P.S. Please, ignore my curiosity.

(AP Photo/Bill Kostroun)

(AP) ? Before they could really get rolling, Justin Verlander and CC Sabathia were done. A pair of aces washed away after fewer than 30 pitches.

The playoff opener between the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees was suspended because of rain in the second inning Friday night, wiping out both No. 1 starters for a few days. The game will resume Saturday night with the score tied at 1, but neither perennial All-Star will be back on the mound until they get some rest.

"I do feel bad for the national audience," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "Certainly, it was really a marquee matchup. That's a little sad, but that's just the way it is."

Verlander started for Detroit against Sabathia in a highly anticipated matchup between two of baseball's best pitchers. The teams played for 30 minutes before the game was halted.

According to a rule adopted by Major League Baseball after rain and snow wreaked havoc with the 2008 World Series, the game is not postponed. So it will pick up Saturday night at the point of suspension ? weather permitting ? with the Yankees coming to bat in the bottom of the second inning. The forecast calls for rain through late Saturday night.

Neither ace is scheduled to pitch again until at least Game 3 on Monday, likely limiting both to one start even if the best-of-five American League series goes the distance.

"It's definitely disappointing," Sabathia said. "It looked like it was going to be a good game."

Instead, what was already a wild week for baseball became a wet one, too.

So why did the game start if steady showers were on the way? The commissioner's office consulted three weather services Friday before making a decision, and Yankees president Randy Levine said the rain "came from nowhere."

Fooled by the radar.

Changeup.

"We certainly were not going to start a game if we had a forecast of heavy rain. Whether it was CC or Justin or two other guys, because it certainly isn't fair to either club," said Joe Torre, executive vice president of baseball operations for MLB. "Our forecast was light, intermittent showers. Nothing that was threatening, except until late tonight. Obviously that forecast changed, and we came up with the result that we did."

Delmon Young homered for the Tigers and Alex Rodriguez had an RBI groundout, both in the first inning. All statistics from Friday night will count.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said rookie right-hander Ivan Nova will be on the mound when the game resumes Saturday at 8:37 p.m. He had been slated to go in Game 2, which was moved back to Sunday at 3:07 p.m., a scheduled day off in the series.

MLB said there will not be a doubleheader during the series.

"Just had a nice bullpen in front of half of America today," Verlander said. "It was a little disappointing. Now I've got a start Monday to look forward to, start getting prepared for that."

Freddy Garcia will pitch the second game for New York instead of Game 3, Girardi said, adding that he wasn't sure yet when Sabathia would go again.

"I want the ball as much as possible," the big lefty said.

Sabathia added that he would make his pitch to Girardi to start Sunday, but the manager said: "It's not the right thing to do."

Doug Fister, the Tigers' scheduled starter for Game 2, will pitch when Game 1 resumes. Max Scherzer was moved up from Game 3 to Game 2 and Verlander will start Game 3 on Monday.

"This is not a big deal. Everybody does the best they can. Everybody is kind of scurrying around right now. There's no sense getting excited," Leyland said. "I don't worry about stuff like that. I think when the manager makes a big deal about something like that, it affects the players. It is what it is. Good Lord, it rained. So what?"

Verlander and Fister are both right-handed. But the Tigers fielded a lineup Friday night that was stacked with right-handed hitters against Sabathia. Now that same group will have to remain in the game, at least at first, against Nova.

"That's the one little dilemma probably, but it will work out," Leyland said. "I'm going to keep my lineup in there and see how the game plays out. Obviously, I'm not going to start pulling guys out."

Verlander, who won the pitching version of the Triple Crown in the AL this season, threw 25 pitches in the first inning. Rain began falling with Mark Teixeira at the plate, the eighth batter of the game.

The downpour intensified in the top of the second as Sabathia, who tossed 27 pitches, worked a perfect inning with a pair of strikeouts. Fans at Yankee Stadium scampered up the aisles for cover on the concourse, and a shimmering pool of water formed in front of home plate. Tigers second baseman Ryan Raburn shook the raindrops off his helmet and tried to dry his bat by wiping it under his arm.

After the inning, all six umpires huddled with a member of the Yankee Stadium grounds crew at the mound and then called for the tarp. The teams never got back on the field and the game was suspended after a 77-minute delay.

"Heck of a game. It was great," Leyland said, drawing laughs.

The rain stopped briefly and the grounds crew pulled the tarp off the infield at 9:36 p.m. As workers were getting the field ready, heavy showers picked up again and the tarp was placed back on at 9:47.

After a wait of 37 more minutes, the announcement was made in the ballpark that the game had been called, bringing boos from the crowd.

Rain mucked up the major league schedule all season ? and the Yankees were hit the hardest. There were 54 postponements around the big leagues, more than double the 21 in 2010.

The Yankees had nine games postponed, more than any other team, and 13 others delayed due to weather.

Even in the playoffs, the rainy season rolls on.

"It's perfect," Girardi said. "We've been through this all year long. It's not what either club wanted. Both clubs have to deal with it. The one thing I probably learned as much as any other, you cannot fight Mother Nature."

NOTES: Young was acquired from Minnesota in a quiet trade on Aug. 15. His first postseason homer barely cleared the short porch in right. ... Sabathia struck out four in two innings. Verlander walked two in the first but did not allow a hit.

Medic: Info from Jackson doctor didn't add up (AP)

LOS ANGELES ? After just a few moments in Michael Jackson's bedroom, the paramedic dispatched to save the singer's life knew things weren't adding up.

There was the skinny man on the floor, eyes open with a surgical cap on his head. His skin was turning blue. Paramedic Richard Senneff asked the sweating, frantic-looking doctor in the room what condition the stricken man had.

"He said, `Nothing. He has nothing,'" Senneff told jurors at the involuntary manslaughter trial of Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray.

"Simply, that did not add up to me," Senneff said.

Over the course of the 42 minutes that Los Angeles paramedics tried to revive Jackson, several other things about the room and Murray's responses seemed inconsistent to Senneff.

After repeated prodding, Murray revealed a few details about his actions, saying he had only given Jackson a dose of the sedative lorazepam to help him sleep, Senneff testified.

In addition, there were bottles of medicine on Jackson's nightstand, and Murray finally offered that he was treating the singer for dehydration and exhaustion.

Senneff said Murray never mentioned that he had also been giving Jackson doses of the anesthetic propofol and other sedatives, a key omission that prosecutors say shows he repeatedly tried to conceal his actions during the struggle to save the pop superstar.

Murray, 58, has pleaded not guilty. If convicted, he could face up to four years in prison and lose his medical license.

Prosecutors contend the Houston-based cardiologist repeatedly lied to medics and emergency room doctors about medications he had been giving Jackson in the singer's bedroom. They claim Murray administered a fatal dose of propofol and other sedatives.

Defense lawyers claim Jackson gave himself the fatal dose after his doctor left the room.

Defense attorney Nareg Gourjian asked Senneff whether Jackson's appearance was consistent with someone who was a drug addict.

Senneff said that was a difficult determination to make, but he did think the singer "looked like he had a chronic health problem."

Senneff was the first paramedic to reach Jackson's bedroom and said within moments, he and three other paramedics were working to revive Jackson. After trying multiple heart-starting medications and other efforts, Jackson was still lifeless.

"Did you ever see any sign of life in Mr. Jackson during the entire time you were attempting to save him," prosecutor Deborah Brazil asked.

"No I did not," Senneff said.

Another paramedic dispatched to the room, Martin Blount, agreed. He told jurors that they thought Jackson was dead soon after they arrived in the room.

Blount also said he saw three open bottles of lidocaine on the floor of the room but noted that Murray never mentioned giving Jackson the painkiller. He told jurors he saw the doctor scoop up the vials and drop them in a black bag.

Between the paramedics' testimony, Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor threatened Murray's lawyers with a contempt charge over an interview the law partner of lead defense counsel Ed Chernoff did Friday with "The Today Show." In the interview, attorney Matt Alford criticized a key prosecution witness, Jackson's bodyguard Alberto Alvarez.

Alvarez testified Thursday that Murray ordered him to place vials of medication in a bag before calling 911. Defense attorneys have repeatedly challenged his account.

Prosecutors complained and Pastor watched the interview during a break. He told attorneys he was shocked and had watched the interview "with my mouth open." The interview was done hours after the judge warned attorneys not to comment about the case outside court.

He ordered Alford to appear for a contempt hearing on Nov. 15 and described him as a witness after Chernoff told Pastor to hold him in contempt instead of his partner.

All the discussions about the interview were held outside the presence of jurors, who are under strict orders to avoid media coverage about the case.

The seven-man, five-woman panel instead heard testimony about efforts to revive Jackson, who the paramedics and emergency room doctor thought was dead at his rented mansion. Still, the singer was transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center because Murray wanted life-saving efforts to continue.

After loading Jackson into an ambulance, Senneff said he saw Murray collecting items from Jackson's bedside. The doctor was alone in the bedroom for several moments before joining paramedics in the ambulance for the drive to the hospital, Senneff said.

Gourjian suggested Murray had been collecting his wallet and glasses, but Senneff said he could not see the items.

In the ambulance, Blount said, he heard Murray make a phone call. "`It's about Michael, and it doesn't look good,'" Blount recalled hearing Murray saying.

Jurors also heard from a former Murray patient who lauded the doctor's treatment of him, but said the cardiologist became increasingly distant and hard to reach while working with Jackson.

"I felt like I was getting the best care in the world," said Robert Russell of Las Vegas, before Murray became the singer's personal physician. "The advice he gave me saved my life."

Russell said he couldn't get answers about his own treatment, and the man who once spent so much time offering care and advice was unreachable.

He called Murray's office on June 25, 2009 ? the day Jackson died ? and demanded to speak to the doctor.

The doctor returned the call and left him a voicemail at 11:49 a.m. Prosecutors are using records to show that Murray was on the phone in the moments before he realized Jackson was unconscious.

Thirty-seven minutes later, Senneff ran into Jackson's bedroom.
